Deer Hunting Ridge Road Views

Something that is very important for whitetail deer hunting land is that you have adequate access to all parts of the property.  This land as two main roads accessing the large ridge top field and has a few other smaller logging roads that get you up some of the other hills.

This part of the walk takes place in the red circled area.

The view from the first picture is looking North at Sneed Creek valley.  The picture of the turkeys was taken on the left side.  That picture will be in the group of pictures showing the land bordering this great Wisconsin hunting land deal.  Just look at that valley.  We are just standing at the edge of the trees and you can already see that is will take us up a steep hill.  This walk will not be too bad though because the road gradually winds up top.

The next picture is from the same spot but looking to the right across the valley to the first field that we saw.

This is the North side of the field ridge hill.  It is also part of the pasture and thus the lower part of the hill has some of the under brush eaten off.

This picture and the next show how some of the brush has been eaten off — AH YES — good shooting lanes for deer.

Often times the deer will come off the ridge tops around the sides of the hill.  As they do, they cross through this somewhat open area before they dart across the valley.  Don’t be distracted by all of the squirrels as the whitetail won’t wait for you.  When they get this far down the hill, they are getting ready to DASH across the valley!

The next two photos are just to show you how the lower hillside trees are the tall and straight ones.

OK now, we are finally on part of the road that will get us to the top.  All of the ridge access roads were simply formed by a small caterpillar.  The under growth pops up quickly which is good to stop erosion but the roads are still provide great access.

At this point we’ve climbed about half way up the hill.  The rest of the journey will be straight ahead to the end of the clear part and then wind to the left up a valley to the actual ridge top opening.

This shot isn’t that great but it does show that we’ve gone up the hill quite a ways because the light part is the Sneed Creek valley below.

These trees are some of the white and red oaks towards the top of the hill.  At this point, many of hill top trees are some what shorter and twisted.  At this point, you’ll probably see the deer make a dash off the upper slope, across the ridge road and down the hill and possibly even cross the road and the larger Sneed Creek valley.  You’ll possibly see them from here but there are too many trees to hit anything.

Ah yes, we are not making the turn and you can first start to see the opening in the trees for the access to the ridge fields.

Just simply awesome!  At this point you get your first change to see across the main Sneed Creek valley to the ridge fields to the West on the other side.

I can’t tell you just exactly how great it feels to make this walk and emerge at the top to see this view.  You want to take it all in but the fact of the matter is that this is also some of the best areas for deer, turkey, quail and grouse hunting because of the way the fields were cleared.  The ridge top tree tops were pushed back to the edge of the fields.  THIS IS WHERE a lot of the action can be.  If you take your time, you’ll almost certainly scare something out of the downed tree tops.

Have a great day and please don’t forget to contact us if you are interested in leasing this great land or simply making it your own.

Oh by the way, after this walk you may just want to starting thinking about getting a tractor so that you can cut some wood and pull it out for either a campfire or perhaps a new hunting cabin or home?
